Default Please Give Advice on back pain?

I recently had surgery on a herniated disc 2 months ago and was on percocet, but after surgery I had a lot of back pain that does not go away, my doctor switched me to T3 which did not work at all, and when I told him, he just gave me celebrex to take with the T3 and when that did not work either he said "maybe its better if you just deal with the pain" I thought it was horrible advice, but I'm no doctor. I had my MRI with me and asked him if there was other problems in my back and he clearly pointed out a few problems and even said I will have to do fusion surgery someday. I asked if he could step me up to Vikes since T3 is not doing anything for me,(I dont want percocets, because they are too strong) but he does not want to give me any. Any advice on what I should do?
PS: the other problems in my back were 4 bulging disc and he said my back is pretty my no good

Is the doctor that is prescribing your medication your surgeon? If so then maybe it's time to go see a pain management specialist. He/she will help you in finding the best, safest medications and if needed PT to help with pain as well. They can also refer you to a therapist that specializes in helping people cope with chronic pain. I have been dealing with chronic pain for over 3 years due to an undiagnosed neurological condition and I know how stressful and discouraged I can get at times, I unfortunately had a bad experience with my pain management doctor but my family doctor stepped up for me and is taking great care of me. But a lot of people have had problems with him so it wasn't just me, You just need to do your research and ask a lot of questions and be very involved in your pain treatment and decisions. If you don't find the right match the first time try again. Sometimes it take a few tries before you find one you mesh with.
I agree with you that your current doctor's statement to just deal with the pain was both inappropriate and insensitive. I am sorry that you had to deal with that asinine comment. Just remember, you are your best advocate. I you accept mediocre care from your doctor that is what you are going to get. You have a right to the top care and treatment. Sometimes you Just have to fight a bit for it. Good luck and if you need any advice or tips that I have used to get my doctor's to take my issues seriously and to treat me as a person, not just a part of their job, then feel free to e-mail me through answers.

I hear your pain
I am going in for surgery next month for a spinal fusion and also have a herniated disc.
I take percocet but it really doesn't do much for the pain.
Have you asked the doctor about cortisone injections?
It does wonders for some.
Are you doing Physical therapy? I detest it but its a commitment you've got to make to show your trying to feel better.
Start a pain journal.
This way you have documetation to show the doctor that you are suffering..
Its tough to get good pain management as doctors are so hesitant to prescribe opioids.
Start journaling and keep doing everything your doctor recommends.
Your doctor gave you less than stellar advice and should of atleast offered you a referal to a pain clinic.
I hope you feel better soon
