Can skin cancer start out as an unraised, under the skin red splotch that

looks like a star? I have a spot on my shoulder. I cant get in to the doctor until mid january. I'm not going to fret much over it till then, but I'm curious.
i have read about the ABCDE criteria list of melanoma, but the pics I have seen are in advanced stages.
Does melanoma usually begin tiny? Mine is about the size 2-3 millimeters is size.

Well one of the ABCD's had to do w/ symmetry didn't it? It's even on both sides? If it's a starlike shape, that doesn't sound symmetrical. I'd look more into it. I usually roll my eyes at the "call the doctor" know it alls but in this case I'd call. He'll either have you come in or alleviate your concerns w/ a few f/up questions. I'd call just to put my own mind at ease.
